MP3 Bitrates

[edit]

@Dynamicimanyd In this photo, looks like MP3 does not support below roughly 64kbps but it supports down to 8kbps in reality. Source: en:w:MP3. Can you (or anyone else) solve this problem? RuzDD (talk) 18:14, 18 April 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The problem is with the MOS (Mean Opinion Scores) data used by Jean-Marc Valin only going down to MPEG1 sampling rates, not MPEG2 or MPEG2.5 rates where quality degrades markedly and which cannot be used in Variable Bitrate MP3 Files or streams which also contain MPEG1 layer 3 frames, where the lower limit is 32kbps. Furthermore, I think the extension of MP3 to areas where it is woefully uncompetitive will just clutter the graph in areas where other codecs are preferable. I think someone should solve this problem because this image has misinformation in the current revision. The same problem also exist on Vorbis and AAC. RuzDD (talk) 17:01, 11 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
